‘A SONG OF FREEDOM’
I wove me a song of freedom
A passing sweet refrain;
I wove me a song from sorrow,
A song from the fields of pain.
I wove me a song of enchantment,
From tears and the world’s disdain;
A song I did weave from illusion,
And wings from the love that was vain!
In the heart’s lone, sequestered places,
In the twilight of the soul,
I laboured and prayed in silence,
From fragments to weave me a whole.
And the song arose before me,
As a vision clothed in light,
And I thrilled with the breath of freedom,
And fled from the clouds of night.
On the wings of joy and the morning
I winged my soul’s swift flight
And soared into God’s high heaven,
As the eagle soars from sight.
